Ex-textile worker now a PHCC graduate

After being laid off from his textile job in 2009, Ricky Hall of Oak Level thought he had hit a dead end and “had nothing to look forward to,” he said.

Hall, who was in his early 50s, had dropped out of Bassett High School in the 10th grade in 1975 to help take care of his invalid sister. He had worked more than three decades in hourly jobs at local textile mills, including eight years at Fieldcrest Mills and about 25 years for HanesBrands Inc. and its predecessor companies, including Pannill Knitting.
